Homeopathy is a holistic treatment, encouraging the patient’s own healing
capabilities by giving minute doses of specific substances in order to bring
about a safe, effective and gentle cure.
Essentially homeopathy rebalances the body’s internal ‘energetic’ functioning,
which can be pulled out of balance by the stresses and strains of daily life.
Due to this process of ‘rebalancing’, patients often report an
improved sense of well being after treatment, regardless of the specific symptoms
they may have sought treatment for.
Homeopathy is a safe and effective system
of medicine, which is practiced in worldwide. Homeopathy is a holistic therapy,
which treats the whole person and the underlying causes of their ill health,
rather than just removing or suppressing their symptoms. Homeopathy has been
used successfully in the treatment of many physical complaints as well as more
general or emotional problems such as insomnia, anxiety, depression and stress.
Homeopathy
treats people not diseases: Homeopathy sees you, your mind body and emotions
as an interconnected whole, and treats it as such. The body is intelligent
and knows what it needs and how to heal itself. Homeopathy works with the body
by re-activating this innate intelligence.
From a homeopathic point of view,
health is not only about the absence of the symptoms of disease, being healthy
is also about:
• Living without limitations, or fear.
• being able to cope with and move through life’s
changes and stresses, without anxiety.
The particular symptoms of ill health which may be the catalyst for seeking
homeopathic treatment will disappear once their underlying causes have been
dealt with.
The body is intelligent and knows what it needs and how to heal itself. Homeopathy
works with the body by re-activating this innate intelligence.
Individualised Treatment
We are all unique individuals; we all express illness differently and we all
need different treatment to bring us back into balance.
For example if all the members of your family are ill with a cold, each one
of you will have slightly different symptoms – one will get a cough one
will have a very runny nose some will get better quickly some may be laid low
for a while.
When we are ill the symptoms of illness are the body’s response to internal
or external events. These symptoms are signposts or messages from the body
telling us what we need to pay attention to or what we need to let go of (from
smoking/drinking to grief/anger) or what we need to do (from communicating
our emotions more, to asking for help, to exercising more regularly).
Prevention is also better than cure; being healthy is about noticing and being
aware of what our body wants and needs and not ignoring or putting up with
aches and pains, low energy levels or stress. It’s about doing something
about them before they get worse. It about listening to our body, and not what
we are told is good for us.
Dis–ease is a process not an event, which is why we need to pay attention
to all our minor illnesses before they become something more persistent
How does homeopathy work?
Homeopathy is based on the principle that like cures like.
Over 200 years ago a German doctor and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann, developed
the system of medicine that we call homeopathy today.
He discovered that a small amount of a substance, which produces certain symptoms
when given to a healthy person, is capable of curing these same symptoms when
given to a sick person.
For example, drinking coffee makes many of us feel wide-awake, excitable,
jittery and restless. Coffea the homeopathic remedy (which is made from coffee
beans) is very good for insomnia where the person is wide awake, excitable,
jittery and restless.
Hahnemann tested many substances for their healing properties in experiments
known as provings. Several healthy volunteers or provers took the remedy in
question until they started to experience symptoms. All symptoms, which resulted
from taking the remedy, were recorded. In this way the healing properties of
many substances were compiled. New provings are taking place all the time and
there are now thousands of homeopathic remedies, each with its own unique healing
picture.
Each homeopathic remedy can bring about cure in a number of ailments. For
example there are hundreds if not thousands of remedies that are good fro headaches.
In order to find the right one for you the homeopath needs to match your personal
symptoms with the picture of the appropriate remedy. In order to do this we
need a complete picture of you – your habits, personality, what events
shaped you, what other members of your family suffered from etc.
How are homeopathic remedies made?
All homeopathic remedies begin with a raw substance e.g. coffee. This is then
mixed with, or dissolved into a mixture of alcohol and/or water, which is
then diluted and shaken (succussed). This process is called potentisation
or dynamisation (because the process releases the dynamic qualities of the
substance).
By potentising a substance any side effects are removed, and substances that
are normally harmful can be taken safely without producing any toxicity.
Succession or shaking the remedy releases the kinetic energy in a substance,
making it more potent. The same thing can happen with us: there are times when
we feel exhausted but go dancing or to an exercise class, jump up and down
in a shaking manner and find we feel a lot better, experiencing a big release
of stress or a surge of energy.
I have been coming to see Emma for two years now and I find it very reassuring
to know that should a health issue arrive, she is available for consultations,
quickly. I have found her extremely helpful. The remedies she provides have
always proved effective in supporting myself and my family through sickness
and it is great to know the remedies we are taking have no side effects.
